This scanner was on my list of things to purchase and replace. As luck would have it, one was posted for sale to Craigslist at literally the exact same time I was browsing the ads.  Someone had a new one that they bought deciding that it was simply too much for them.  So I bought it.  I could have used my former one, the Epson v700, quite often over the last year.

My cousin Mark Berladyn, the fine upstanding man he is, decided that I should not be able to have it along with roughly $20,000 of personal irreplaceable property. The RCMP were a mixed bag of results and at the time I figured I would have to just sue in Small Claims Court, or even worse as he even denied me Safe Harbour.  There was absolutely no way I could manage to take him to court going through what I was and even worse, he derailed an endeavour to better things for everyone, including himself by doing what he had done.

My previous scanner used a fluorescent lamp and is slower.  This newer one is LED based.  Being four models later, there are few enhancements and tweaks.  Still no network feature which is disappointing.  However, a computer it connects to can share the files over a personal network so it's not really a problem.

The only thing I could I ask for is a bigger scanning bed.  It would be nice to scan 11 x 17", but they really charge for hardware with that capability. Regardless, I am happy.  This is the same scanner the police used to take my finger prints. I wasn't happy about getting finger printed, but when I noticed the scanner I was like "Hey, I got the same one.  Isn't that neat."

I also picked up a ten year old document scanner for $25.  It works well too. I want it for stacks of documentation.  Just throw a pile paper on it and hit the button.  When I saw the price and read the reviews, it is indestructable and everyone who has one is happy.  It was a done deal right in that moment.  It matches my printer asthetically, and software wise it is an Epson.  Both use the same software.

I can now properly scan family photographs and documents.  Something which is very important to me.  I regret not spending more time over the last decade doing such.   My only problem, is that I have stayed up too late getting everything working, scanning files, and re-learning how to do everything.
