Post Title: Recovering Desks

After two phone calls and a text, I stopped by Mark's place.  No answer at the door.  I try the back door and sure enough he's entertaining, I should have known - it's Sunday.

I knock on the back door and Mark answers letting me he's with buddy's. I felt bad, but then I needed those desks like there was no tomorrow so I could at least have my chair a desk to write the Probation Officer that very night in time for the next morning.  I plead with Mark can't you just let me take the desks, I really need them yada yada.  Just let me disassemble and take them.

Reluctantly Mark agreed but he stated that I could do it as I might 'upset' his Foreign Dope Smoking Student.  He asked me to wait out front front and they'd carry it out.  I knew that wouldn't work because they need to be disassembled but it was worth the try.  Out front, I could see them moving my belongings off the desk in a rush, manhandling two of my expensive 30" monitors.  They broke the DisplayPort cable right off on one of them.

Mark's buddy Steve was laughing and Mark had this inwardly muted expression on his face. Not being able to handle seeing that any longer, I insisted they let me in.  Even though I didn't have the room in the truck I was going to have to take everything of mine that I could.  At first I was happy to see the upstairs hadn't changed at all, everything was where I left it.

Mentally noting all my items, including my prized 1975 Bottle of Champaign, I moved everything of mine outside.  Into the laundry room for my vacuum accessories, into the kitchen for my three cans of coffee and my heart sinks.  No, it wasn't my coffee being drank and finished off by the Dope Smoking Foreign Student...

It was seeing all my new Breville kitchen appliances, $700 knives, two brand new sets of pots and pans...  it was seeing all that stuff taken out of storage and being used.  I knew I had no time and I didn't want to wear out my welcome so I quickly flipped each cupboard door open trying to look for my property while gathering as much as much as I could.

I believe I saw my plates and bowls, my two newish sets of cutlery, but I didn't even attempt at that.  I don't how to express this, but I had all new kitchenware when I was thrown out.  I know some went missing at home and here is Mark's household taking what was left of it.  It's an unreal feeling.

Thinking about how Mark looked, he kind of looked that night, he had that same expression that a dog has when he's been caught doing something wrong.  I remember thinking I can't even contact the RCMP over this because I just didn't have time.  I had to get everything home, two trips, set up the desk, finalize some writing and meet a Probation Officer in the morning.

On my final drive out of there that night, I noted the Foreign Dope Smoking Students bedroom light was off the whole time.  I figured Mark was lying to me and that he wasn't even there.  At least I had recovered some much needed and valuable property.
