Swindling beds
.
Jim Berladyn, you took advantage of the fact that I looked up to you and you swindled your way into taking my bed and all of my bedroom furniture when I was young. My only condolence in that act has been remembering that I once wet that bed in my sleep one night. I hope you enjoyed it, you slept in that thing for years.
.
We know the story, you and mom came into my room all excited asking me if I want a new bed. You must have thought you were smart. You had mom all prepped to buy something and you tried to incite the idea that it was great for me. I had to answer right then and naturally I trusted my older brother.
.
I regretted that later in life and I am not even sure I really felt well about it when it happened, I just went along with it. For you it was double win, you get rid of me and my toys and you get what most likely always burned you. I had nice furniture and a room to myself, you didn’t. You always stated “not fair”.
.
I even helped you replace that bed many many years later. That was when I’d phone you the odd time and I was sure you were at home screening your calls. You never answered. Funny, because Lisa said you had no life.
.
I was working six days a week like I often did. I would never admit it, but I was exhausted come Sunday’s and it was the only day I’d have off. It was my re-couperation day. I remember exactly the way you were, you plotted to use me to save delivery fees. Anything for you to save a dollar. Instead of snickering around me you were all nice and you knew I wouldn’t say no, I was too tired.
.
We hauled your new bed down Lougheed Hwy. in my white van. I would of had to ensure it was empty first. I was really tired, you felt I was late on the brakes at Harris Rd. and you started throwing a hissy fit. You were making all kinds of tense noises. I thought this is a van, you sit upfront things are closer. There was plenty of room, it was a just sharper slow down than a gentle rolling stop. It happens.
.
I remember how I felt. I felt like pulling over and throwing your bed into the street and telling you to get it home yourself. I was too tired to do that. In fact, I started the next week of work very tired after helping you. It was my one day off of a very hard schedule. I wonder if you answered the phone the next time I called you?
.
I forget, is that a sleigh bed?
